Meters to Feet and Inches Converter

One meter is 39.37 inches, and US sheets post field marks down to the lesser quarter inch: 14.63m posts as 47' 11.75", not 48' 0".

Convert a metric jump or throw into the feet and inches a US meet will post, rounded to the quarter inch the way a results sheet does.

Worked example

A shot put of 14.63m converts to 47' 11.75". 14.63m is 47' 11.75", taken down to the lesser quarter inch the way a results sheet does. Enter your own mark above for yours.

When you need this

The reverse trip: a metric mark from an international list, a college roster or a converted PR, turned into the feet and inches a US meet will actually announce. The quarter inch matters, because that is the resolution a US results sheet publishes at.

How the conversion works

One inch is exactly 0.0254 meters, so this is an exact conversion, not an estimate. US results sheets round to the quarter inch below, which is why a converted mark can read a hair short of the metric original.

Source: World Athletics Technical Rules, Rule 26.1 (marks recorded to the lesser centimeter), checked 2026-08-19. A mark is taken down to the lesser unit and never rounded up, which is why 14.63m posts as 47' 11.75" and not 48' 0".

Recruiting-standard marks, converted

Every mark below is a published college recruiting standard from the standards tables, shown in both units. If the mark you searched for is near one of these, the row tells you what it is worth.

Then find out what the mark is worth

Converting is the easy half. The number only means something next to a standard, so this tool also places your converted mark against published NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA recruiting ranges for your event and gender, and tells you which of them are realistic. No other converter does that, and it is the reason to run yours here.

A converted mark is for comparing, not for claiming. Once you know where it sits, the useful next step is putting the race itself on a profile so a coach can watch it rather than take your word for the number.

Common questions

Why round down instead of to the nearest quarter inch?

Because that is how a mark is recorded. The measurement is taken to the lesser unit, never rounded up, so 14.63m posts as 47' 11.75" and not 48' 0". Rounding to the nearest quarter would invent an extra inch and, in that example, a whole extra foot.

Can I enter feet and inches here?

No, this page runs the other direction and rejects them, because stripping the punctuation out of 21'4" would read it as 214 meters. Use the feet and inches to meters converter instead.

Which events is this for?

Any measured field event: long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault, shot, discus, javelin, hammer and weight.
