Track and field mark converter

Every converter here takes the mark you actually have and gives you the one the entry list, the coach or the record book wants. Pick the conversion you need.

Timing conversions

Stopwatch and photo-finish times are different scales, and meets seed on the converted number.

ConverterWhat it does
Hand Time to FAT ConverterTurn a stopwatch time into its fully automatic equivalent, the way meet seeding does it, by both published conventions.

Wind adjustment

What a mark run with a tailwind is worth in still air, event by event.

ConverterWhat it does
Track Wind Calculator: Sprints, Hurdles, JumpsEnter your mark and the wind reading for the 100m, 200m, hurdles, long jump or triple jump.

Distance and race conversions

The 1600m is not the mile and a 5K is not 3 miles; these are the seeding ratios meets actually use.

Field event units

US sheets post feet and inches, college lists are metric, and the sport rounds down, not to the nearest.

ConverterWhat it does
Feet and Inches to Meters ConverterUS high school meets mark jumps and throws in feet and inches; college and international lists want meters.
Meters to Feet and Inches ConverterConvert a metric jump or throw into the feet and inches a US meet will post, rounded to the quarter inch the way a results sheet does.

Indoor track conversions

The NCAA's own factors for moving a time between flat, undersized and banked tracks.

ConverterWhat it does
Indoor Track Time Converter: Flat vs BankedConvert an indoor time between flat, undersized and banked or oversized tracks using the NCAA's own published factors.

Why these exist

A US high school athlete is measured in one set of units and recruited in another. Meets are hand timed and standards are written in FAT. Jumps are marked in feet and inches and college lists are metric. The 1600m is called the mile and is not the mile. Every one of those gaps has cost somebody a conversation with a coach, because the number they sent did not mean what they thought it meant.

Why a converted mark is not the same as a real one

A converted time is a seeding estimate. No governing body ratifies a record from one, and a college coach reading your profile can tell the difference immediately. Convert to compare yourself against a standard or an old result sheet, then race on a real timing system before you quote the number to anyone who matters.
