Girls Long Jump recruiting standards

Girls Long Jump recruiting standards, measured in meters: D1 6.50m to 5.60m, D2 6.00m to 4.90m, D3 5.60m to 5.00m, NAIA 5.70m to 5.20m. The top of a range is where scholarship conversations get realistic. The bottom is roughly where that division stops recruiting, though walk-on routes exist everywhere.

How coaches actually read this event

Long jump is scored to the centimeter and read to the centimeter, and it is one of the events where a wind reading can void an otherwise excellent mark. A jump with a tailwind over the legal limit still counts for placing at the meet, but it will not be treated as your mark by a recruiting coach, so always record the wind alongside the distance.

Reading the numbers above

Every published band for the girls Long Jump sits between 21' 3.75" (6.50m) and 16' 0.75" (4.90m). Anything inside that window puts you in a real conversation with some division. Below it, the honest read is that you need a season of improvement before a coach's recruiting filter surfaces you at all, and plenty of athletes close exactly that gap in one year.

NCAA Division II publishes the widest band of the four for this event, which means the gap between its fastest recruits and its last roster spot is unusually large. A mark near the bottom of that band is a conversation, not a commitment.

What changes between high school and college

The event is unchanged from high school to college. The one practical trap is units: American meets post feet and inches while every college standard is published in meters. Convert once, carefully, and store both.

Indoor, outdoor and wind

Contested indoors with the same rules, minus the wind. Indoor long jump marks are directly comparable to outdoor ones for recruiting purposes, which is not true of the sprints.

A wind reading can void this mark. The legal limit is a following wind of 2.0 meters per second. Anything above that still counts for placing on the day, but a recruiting coach will not treat it as your mark, so record the wind every single time.

Walk-on

Walk-on conversations in the girls Long Jump usually start at the bottom of the Division III and NAIA ranges: NCAA Division III 16' 4.75" (5.00m) and NAIA 17' 0.5" (5.20m) (published bottoms, not a walk-on standard). Programs vary: a roster spot at one school is a no at another with the same mark, and a coach who has seen the race behind the number is the one who says yes.
