> Boys High Jump recruiting standards: D1 2.18m to 1.95m, D2 2.10m to 1.88m, D3 2.05m to 1.84m, NAIA 2.08m to 1.83m. Source cited, checked August 12, 2026.

Boys High Jump recruiting standards, measured in meters: D1 2.18m to 1.95m, D2 2.10m to 1.88m, D3 2.05m to 1.84m, NAIA 2.08m to 1.83m. The top
of a range is where scholarship conversations get realistic. The bottom is roughly where that
division stops recruiting, though walk-on routes exist everywhere.

Checked August 12, 2026 against the published source.

| Division | Top of range | Bottom of range |
| --- | --- | --- |
| NCAA Division I | 7' 1.75" (2.18m) | 6' 4.75" (1.95m) |
| NCAA Division II | 6' 10.5" (2.10m) | 6' 2" (1.88m) |
| NCAA Division III | 6' 8.5" (2.05m) | 6' 0.25" (1.84m) |
| NAIA | 6' 9.75" (2.08m) | 6' 0" (1.83m) |

These vary by program and conference, so use them to orient yourself rather than to rule
yourself out. ## How coaches actually read this event

High jump is one of the few events where the number means exactly what it says. No implement, no wind reading, no distance change, no conversion. A coach reads the bar height and that is the whole conversation, which is why the published bands are tighter here than in the throws.

## Reading the numbers above

Every published band for the boys High Jump sits between **7' 1.75" (2.18m)** and **6' 0" (1.83m)**. Anything inside that window puts you in a real conversation with some division. Below it, the honest read is that you need a season of improvement before a coach's recruiting filter surfaces you at all, and plenty of athletes close exactly that gap in one year.

NAIA publishes the widest band of the four, which is usually why it is the landing spot for athletes who develop late or who came to the event from another sport.

## What changes between high school and college

Identical from high school to college. What separates recruits is consistency at height rather than a single clearance, so a season of results at or near your best is worth more than one outlier day.

## Indoor, outdoor and wind

Contested indoors as the same event with the same rules. Many jumpers set their best marks indoors because there is no wind and the approach conditions are constant.

There is no wind rule in this event. No reading can make the mark illegal, which is one reason coaches like recruiting off it: the number you ran or threw is simply the number.

## Walk-on

Walk-on conversations in the boys High Jump usually start at the bottom of the Division III and NAIA ranges: NCAA Division III 6' 0.25" (1.84m) and NAIA 6' 0" (1.83m) (published bottoms, not a walk-on standard). Programs vary: a roster spot at one school is a no at another with the same mark, and a coach who has seen the race behind the number is the one who says yes.
