> Girls 1500/1600m recruiting standards: D1 4:32.00 to 5:02.00, D2 4:46.00 to 5:36.00, D3 4:53.00 to 5:38.00, NAIA 4:55.00 to 6:05.00, FAT.

Girls 1500/1600m recruiting standards, fully automatic timing: D1 4:32.00 to 5:02.00, D2 4:46.00 to 5:36.00, D3 4:53.00 to 5:38.00, NAIA 4:55.00 to 6:05.00. The top
of a range is where scholarship conversations get realistic. The bottom is roughly where that
division stops recruiting, though walk-on routes exist everywhere.

These vary by program and conference, so use them to orient yourself rather than to rule
yourself out. ## How coaches actually read this event

This is the one event on the list where the distance itself changes. American high schools race the 1600m, the so called metric mile. College outdoor racing is the 1500m, and college indoor racing is usually the mile or the 3000m. The published standard below is a 1600m standard, so it lines up with the mark you already own.

## Reading the numbers above

Every published band for the girls 1500/1600m sits between **4:32.00** and **6:05.00**. Anything inside that window puts you in a real conversation with some division. Below it, the honest read is that you need a season of improvement before a coach's recruiting filter surfaces you at all, and plenty of athletes close exactly that gap in one year.

NAIA publishes the widest band of the four, which is usually why it is the landing spot for athletes who develop late or who came to the event from another sport.

## What changes between high school and college

A coach converting your 1600m into a 1500m is doing arithmetic, and the amount they subtract is not a fixed number for every runner. Do not convert your own mark before you send it. Send the 1600m time you actually ran, with the meet and the date, and let the coach do the conversion they trust.

## Indoor, outdoor and wind

Indoors the equivalents are the mile and the 3000m. Both are raced on a 200m track, so lap count and traffic matter more than they do outdoors.

There is no wind rule in this event. No reading can make the mark illegal, which is one reason coaches like recruiting off it: the number you ran or threw is simply the number.

## Walk-on

Walk-on conversations in the girls 1500/1600m usually start at the bottom of the Division III and NAIA ranges: NCAA Division III 5:38.00 and NAIA 6:05.00 (published bottoms, not a walk-on standard). Programs vary: a roster spot at one school is a no at another with the same mark, and a coach who has seen the race behind the number is the one who says yes.
