**The real numbers first.** Nobody publishes an official "average 100m time by age", and the sites that print one are guessing. What IS published: section and state qualifying standards, a youth championship standard, and college recruiting ranges. Every row below is one of those, named and linked, and nothing in it is estimated. All times FAT; a hand time rounds up to the next tenth and adds 0.24.

**Rate your 100m time.** Type your time into the box on this page and see which college level it reaches, how far the next one is, and where it would sit on the live board. If the box is not showing, open the [100m rating tool](https://trackreels.io/rate/100m/M) for boys or the [girls version](https://trackreels.io/rate/100m/F).

| Level (boys, FAT) | 100m time | Where the number comes from |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Middle school championship level | 11.75 | FLYRA 2026 Florida youth state championship qualifying standard (a middle school meet, not the FHSAA high school series) |
| Varsity: advancing from league finals | 11.04 to 11.54 | CIF Southern Section 2026 minimum standards for 2nd and 3rd place at league finals, Division 1 11.04 to Division 4 11.54 |
| State-qualifier level | 10.77 to 11.56 | CIF-SS 2026 at-large standards 10.77 (D1) to 11.08 (D4); Oregon OSAA 2026 state standards 10.90 (6A) to 11.54 (1A); Missouri MSHSAA 2026 district standards 11.03 (Class 5) to 11.56 (Class 1) |
| College walk-on range | 10.70 to 11.40 | Published D3 (10.90 to 11.40) and NAIA (10.70 to 11.40) recruiting ranges |
| College scholarship range | 10.30 to 11.20 | Published D1 (10.30 to 10.80) and D2 (10.60 to 11.20) ranges |

| Level (girls, FAT) | 100m time | Where the number comes from |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Middle school championship level | 12.85 | FLYRA 2026 Florida youth state championship qualifying standard (a middle school meet, not the FHSAA high school series) |
| Varsity: advancing from league finals | 12.84 to 13.24 | CIF Southern Section 2026 minimum standards for 2nd and 3rd place at league finals, Division 1 12.84 to Division 3 13.24 |
| State-qualifier level | 12.11 to 13.19 | CIF-SS 2026 at-large standards 12.11 (D1) to 12.41 (D2); Oregon OSAA 2026 state standards 12.17 (6A) to 13.08 (2A); Missouri MSHSAA 2026 district standards 12.41 (Class 5) to 13.19 (Class 1) |
| College walk-on range | 12.10 to 13.30 | Published D3 (12.10 to 13.30) and NAIA (12.10 to 12.80) recruiting ranges |
| College scholarship range | 11.40 to 12.80 | Published D1 (11.40 to 12.00) and D2 (11.80 to 12.80) ranges |

By grade, the honest version: a freshman inside the varsity band is ahead of schedule, a junior at state-qualifier level is a college walk-on conversation, and the scholarship bands are the [published recruiting standards](https://trackreels.io/standards/100m/M) regardless of grade: coaches recruit the mark, not the birthday.

Sources, all 2026 and all marks as published: [CIF Southern Section minimum and at-large standards](https://cifss.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/CIF-SS-Track-Min-Track-and-At-Large-Standards_2026.pdf), [OSAA state championship qualifying standards](https://www.osaa.org/docs/btf/2026qualifyingstandards.pdf), [MSHSAA district qualifying standards](https://www.mshsaa.org/resources/Activities/TrackandField/District%20Qualifying%20Standards.pdf), [FLYRA qualification standards](https://www.floridayouthrunners.com/qualification-standards.html). The CIF-SS minimum standard is the mark a 2nd or 3rd place finisher at league finals must have to advance; the at-large standard earns an entry without placing. OSAA standards are the four-year average of fourth place at state. MSHSAA publishes district qualifying standards by class.

Correction, September 4, 2026: an earlier version of this table put Missouri's girls' standards in the boys' row and attributed the Florida figures to the FHSAA. Both are fixed above.

Projected with the same WMA age factors the progression tool uses, from the published 2026 marks above and anchored at age 18; a projection is not an average, and nobody publishes an official one. The [100m progression tool](https://trackreels.io/progression/100m) does the same arithmetic for your own time.

This is one of the most searched questions in the sport, and almost every answer you will find is fabricated. Worth explaining why before giving you something better.

## Why these age rows are projections, not averages

To publish a real average 100m time for, say, a 14 year old boy, somebody would need results for a representative sample of 14 year old boys. That data does not exist in one place. High school results sit in fifty separate state association systems, plus a handful of commercial databases, and every one of them only records athletes who competed in a scored meet.

The kids who ran one time trial in PE and never raced again are not in there. Neither are most of the athletes at the back of a JV heat. So any "average" built from meet results is really the average of *athletes who race*, which is a much faster group than *kids of that age*.

That is before you get to the fact that a 14 year old can be in seventh grade or ninth, pre-growth-spurt or fully developed. Age is a weak predictor of sprint speed at exactly the ages people search for.

## What is actually published

College recruiting ranges are published, sourced and reasonably stable. They are the only numbers on this page that come from somewhere real.

For the **100m**, the published ranges look like this:

- **NCAA Division I:** boys roughly 10.30 at the top of the range to 10.80 at the bottom. Girls roughly 11.40 to 12.00.
- **NCAA Division II:** boys about 10.60 to 11.20. Girls about 11.80 to 12.80.
- **NCAA Division III:** boys about 10.90 to 11.40. Girls about 12.10 to 13.30.
- **NAIA:** boys about 10.70 to 11.40. Girls about 12.10 to 12.80.

The top of a range is where scholarship conversations become realistic. The bottom is roughly where that division stops actively recruiting, though walk-on routes exist everywhere.

## How to use that if you are 13, 14 or 15

You are not being measured against those numbers yet, and you should not be. Use them as a horizon instead.

**Work out the gap, not the grade.** If you are a 15 year old girl running 13.2, the nearest published band is D3 at 12.10 to 13.30, so you are already inside a college range with three seasons left. That is a far more useful fact than "the average 15 year old runs X".

**Track your own progression.** The single strongest recruiting signal for a young athlete is improvement over seasons. A boy who goes 12.4, then 11.9, then 11.5 is a much more interesting recruit than one who ran 11.5 three years running.

**Get properly timed before you compare anything.** Hand times and FAT are different measurements, and comparing your hand-timed personal best to a published FAT standard is how people end up with a wildly wrong idea of where they stand.

## A better question than "is this good for my age"

Ask **"what is the next band, and what does it want"**. Then you have a target rather than a verdict. You can check any mark against every division on the [standards page](https://trackreels.io/standards), or go straight to the 100m ladder for [boys](https://trackreels.io/standards/100m/M) or [girls](https://trackreels.io/standards/100m/F).

Want next season's number rather than this one? The [100m progression by age tool](https://trackreels.io/progression/100m) takes a time at 13, 14 or 15 and shows what the same age-graded level is worth at 17 and 18, on the published WMA curve, then places the age-18 time against the college standards.
